Welcome to the Comunn Eachdraidh Bharraidh agus Bhatarsaidh (Barra and Vatersay Historical Society) website.

Comunn Eachdraidh Bharraidh & Bhatarsaidh

 

The Comunn Eachdraidh (Historical Society) was formed in 1995 to conserve and promote the culture and heritage of the islands of Barra and Vatersay.  The Society collects artefacts, documents and photographs, and has built up  extensive archives and collections.  It arranges exhibitions, displays and events of a social, educational and recreational nature.

The Society has over 150 members, who voluntarily give their time and expertise to manage the fine purpose-built Heritage Centre, and provide a warm welcome to all who seek to learn more about the history, language and culture of there unique and precious islands.

The Heritage Centre offers exhibitions that reflect life on Barra and the southern islands.

Find out about the islands south of Barra and Vatersay, known as 'The Bishop's Isles'. School project on the land raids in Barra done by Eoligarry and Castlebay Gaelic Medium. This month four pictures depicting Fishing in Barra from 1890's to 1980's.
